Many Thanks for CTD #409

Another card for another challenge.  I'm not late for the deadline this time...lol!  The colors this week for the Color Throwdown Challenge #409 were black, turquoise, yellow and white.  I decided to use a set I received last month, but hadn't had a chance to use yet..

I don't usually just make die-cut cards.  The only stamping I did, you can hardly see.  I stamped the vines of the leaves, which are black, in VersaMark ink and heat embossed them in clear.  I felt Birgit's energy making this card today.  Birgit is the die-cut queen.  If you haven't seen her blog, check it out here!

Thanks for stopping by, I love it when you do.  Have a great week!

Gold, Black & White for MM #212

Hi everyone!  I just couldn't resist Merry Monday's Gold, Black & White Challenge this week.  Who doesn't like these 3 colors together.  They look so elegant.  It took me all week to figure out what I wanted to do, though...LOL!

Here's what I came up with...
Gina K Pure White Luxury cs
White Linen cs from a local stamp store
Gold mirror cs from a local stamp store
SU's black cs
PTI's Think Big Favorites #21 Stamp Set
VerseFink Black Ink
Clear Embossing Powder
PB's Winter Garland
PTI's Petite Places: Nativity Die Set
PTI's Tag Die #4
Black/White Baker's Twine

It's pretty self explanatory.  I really like the way it turned out.  I'm thinking this may be one of my Christmas cards for this year.  I've been in love the Nativity set from PTI since last year when I saw what Amy Sheffer did with this set.  You can see that card here.  Such a beautifully striking card!

Well, I didn't get my card posted in time for MM #212...shoot!  I was thinking I had until 5pm not 12pm.  Oops!  Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week!

Winter Joy

Hi everyone,
I fell in love with Jill Foster's card and just had to try CASE her.  I've been watching her use Shimmerz and they have quite the shine to them, even though my picture doesn't do them justice.  Please check out Jill Foster's how to video here.  This video was actually showing us how to use the MISTI for a multi colored sentiment.  Here's a picture of her finished card.  Isn't it gorgeous?

PB's Winter Joy Stamp Set
PB's Rejoice with Joy Stamp Set
SU's Real Red Ink
Tuxedo Black Ink
Shimmerz paints in Berry-lious, Jilted Jade, Sunflower and Royal Red
Shimmerz Aqua Huez in Ivy League

My card didn't turn out quite like Jill's.  I only stamped 3 poinsettias, used a different sentiment that worked better on my card and my blending on the background needs some work.  It's not as gorgeous as Jill's, but I still really like the way it turned out.  This may be one of my Christmas cards.  If you haven't tried the Shimmerz paints, here's my 2 cents worth.  I like how bright the colors are and how easy they are to use.  I'm not an art major and my no means a water color expert, but they worked just as well as my Peerless and the Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi color set I have, too.

Thank you for stopping by, I love it when you do.  Have an awesome week!

CTD #408 - Butterfly Charmer

Just a quick post for Color Throwdown Challenge #408.  Using yellow, blue, red and green.

Spectrum Noir Clear Glitter Pen

Pretty straight forward card.   I inked Butterfly Charmer with Tuxedo Black ink and colored the butterflies with Copic Markers.  I trimmed up the card with the SSS Wavy Scollop Stitches die and inked up "Bring on the Happy" with VersaFine Black ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

I finished off the butterflies by adding some clear glitter to each butterfly.  You can see the glitter in the second photo.

I'm also submitting this card for SSS Wednesday Challenge--Anything Goes.

Thanks for stopping by...I love it when you do!  Have a great week!

Fabulous birthday and a First Anniversary

Hi everyone, just popping in with a couple of cards.  The first one is for CTD #407.  This week's color challenge is to use Yellow, Lime Green and Teal.  I love these colors together.  My card is pretty
simple.  I used my Misti to make this card.  I used Distress Markers and colored the stamp with the three colors and spritzed the stamp with water and inked up the watercolor cs.  I set the panel aside to

dry.  I then took the Broken China Distress Marker and scribbled on my mat and spritzed it with water and used a small paint brush to add my ink splatter.  After adding my sentiment, I mounted the watercolor cs to a piece of black cs.  I  mounted the lime green paper to a piece of white GK cs and added black cs to the watercolor panel and attached that to the card base.  I finished the card off with sequins.

SSS Intense Black Ink
Yellow Sequins

Oh Yea!  I just noticed that Darnell is having NBUS Challenge #7.  Both of my cards qualify.  The PB stamp I've had for months and it hadn't seen any ink until this weekend.  The SU Flourish die cuts I just got last month and used it for the first time last weekend.   If you want to participate in Darnell's NBUS challenge #7, you can do so until September 5.  Have fun using your "Never Before Used Schtuff".  You can enter up to three cards!!   Thanks, Darnell, for helping me actually use my NBUS.  I have way too many.

This card I made last weekend for my son, Nick and his wife, Danielle's first wedding anniversary.  It's hard to believe they have been married a year, already.

TH's watercolor cs

SU's Smoky Gray cs
PTI's Wet Paint stamp set

Again, a pretty simple card.  I used the colors purple, gray and white, which were the colors they used on their wedding day, too.

Have a great week!  Thank you so much for stopping by, I love it when you do.

SAF - Impressionistic Florals with Melissa Phillips

This was a fun card to make, too.  Melissa had lots of steps and I had to keep pausing the video so I could catch up with her.  I pretty much used the same colors as Melissa, even though she didn't always tell you what colors she was using and there were a couple she used, I didn't have.  But I really liked how it turned out, even though I wasn't really sure about the double embossing part.  It was hard to tell where you embossed the first time.  Glad it didn't have to be perfect...lol!

SAF - Master Color Recipes

I have always loved "Date in the Park" by Afremov.  The water colors are so vivid and fall is my favorite time of the year, with summer a very close second!  I knew my card was going to be inspired by him.

SU's Taken with Teal and Summer Sun CS
PTI's inks: Terracotta Tile, New Leaf, Tropic Teal, Summer Sunrise and Scarlet Jewel

Sequins

I must confess, this was not an easy card for me.  Everything I tried (I threw away at least 4 attempts) was just not working. I was trying my hardest to recreate this painting.  Not an easy task when you don't know much about water coloring or even painting, in general.

I finally took my ink pads and put the color on a large acrylic block and spritzed with water and laid my paper over it to come up with the background and added the flowers.  I finished the card off with the die and sequins.  The colors are just not as bright as the painting, but I still really like how it turned out.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Be sure to check out the beautiful cards made with all the Master Color Recipes here

SAF - Watercolor Like A Master with Kay Miller

I was so excited to watch Kay Miller do a watercolor video.  I adore her water coloring talent!  Kay needs to do more water coloring videos.  It was awesome and I learned a few new things, too.  Thanks, Kay.  My card is CASEd, except for the sentiment.

This was such a fun card to make.  I've never really water colored like this.  It was great to experiment with a new technique to me as I never took an art class passed 6th grade.  Not one of my strong suits.

Be sure to check out the other beautiful cards made using Kay's water coloring technique here.  They all look great!

Thanks for stopping by, I love it when you do.

SAF - Starry Night with Amy Sheffer

Hi everyone,  here's the first of a few posts as I try to catch up from SAF.  I know I won't be able to do all of them before 7am tomorrow morning though.  There just aren't enough hours in a day.  LOL!

I didn't quite have everything Amy used, but made do with what I had.  I think I should invest in some black and white acrylic paint and some makeup wedges.

Just a few minor changes were made...

Gina K Pure White Luxury CS
TH's watercolor paper
PTI's inks: Enchanted Evening, Blueberry Sky, Aqua Mist, Mint Julep, Winter Wisteria and Pale Peony
SU's Mossy Meadow Reinker
PTI's Inspired Prayer Die
PTI's Inspired Prayer Stamp Set

Perfect Pearls

As you can see, I did try to make my own trees with my green reinker.  The first tree (3rd one in from the left) was a bit too wet.  The rest of them turned out pretty good considering it was the first time I ever tried to "paint" trees with a paint brush.  Also, my Perfect Pearls were too wet and spread out a bit too much.

This was a fun card to make.  Thanks, Amy for the challenge.  It was a lot of fun.  There are some beautiful starry night skies here

PTI July Blog Hop

I wasn't sure if I would be able to pull a card together for PTI's Blog Hop, but did so last night.  This month's inspiration photo was awesome.  I would love to have those colors in one of my rooms.

At first, I was a bit overwhelmed with all that was going on with the colors and textures that I was coming up blank.  I looked at again last night and decided to pull the colors off the pillow and the triangles off the wall and the color of the rug and incorporate it all into a single layer card.

Life is a wonderful...

Celebration..Enjoy it!  What a great saying.  This is one of the reasons I bought Penny Black's Sentiment collection.  If you don't have it, check out the other wonderful sentiments it has.  One of the other ones that I really like is "All you need is love and a dog"  Perfect saying for a dog lover in your life.

My mojo is still sitting on the back burner.  I decided Friday afternoon to stamp a few images in black and just color to see if would help me get out of this slump.  I went to see what the colors are for this week's Color Throwdown #402 and pulled out Copics close to green, orange, purple and aqua and settled in to color while listening to the Hallmark Channel.  I finished up the card this afternoon as I couldn't decide how to finish it off before today.  That seems to be where my mojo has left me.

PTI's July's Create Along With Us

Hi everyone, I've been somewhat on a break.  I find summer a hard time to stamp.  When it's beautiful out, I would rather be out in the sunshine.  Especially when I think of how much I really don't like the cold.  The hot weather and humidity doesn't bother me.  My mojo is missing, too, which isn't helping either.

I did make a card today for PTI's Create Along With Us.  I'm also submitting the card in Simon Says Stamps Monday Challenge "Flora and Fauna".  I really liked the card Danielle Flanders made using the new stamp set "It's the Thought".  I didn't realize it was a card front from last month until I started making the card and couldn't get the colors to match.  I went back and re-read her post.  For some reason, I never saw these card fronts last month...Lol.  Oh well, I had to improvise a bit.

I used the White pigment ink on all the leaves and flowers first, then went back and stamped over the white with the PTI ink colors.  I also used the white pigment ink for the outline of the flowers, too, and the sentiment.

The only thing I wish I had done differently was heat embossed the sentiment.  The colors are a bit more subdued than the card front Danielle used, but I'm still happy with the way it turned out.  Be sure to check out the other wonderful cards made for this month's Create with Us and this week's SSS Monday Challenge.

Thank you for stopping by.  I love it when you do.  Have a great week!

It's another Birthday

Hi everyone.  I'm back again with a birthday card for MIM #253 and for SSS Wednesday Challenge: Add some shimmer.

For Make It Monday challenge this week, Betsy has us using the reverse stenciling technique.  I have stencils, but not from PTI, so I used one of my latest from Hero Arts.

SU's Green Galore CS
Gina K Pure Luxury White CS
PTI's Amethyst Allure and Vintage Jadette inks
Hero Art's Bold Floral Stencil
Memory Box Isabella Butterfly die
PTI's Big Basics Birthday Die
PTI's Tip Top Die
Spectrum Noir Clear Glitter Pen

The Green Galore CS looked too plain, so I did stencil it with the same HA stencil and also used my new Clarity brushes, too.  They give such a soft look.

After I put the card together, I decided it needed some glitz, so I pulled out my new favorite Glitter Pen by Spectrum Noir and glitz the butterfly and the birthday wishes sentiment.  I like it better then Wink of Stella.  I think it has more shimmer.  Little did I know that Simon Says Wednesday challenge was add some shimmer until I looked before starting my blog post.  Yea!  my card works for two challenges...love it when that happens.

Thanks, Betsy, for a great technique, and for making me pull out my brayer!  I had to search for it, though!  Thank you for stopping by, I love it when you do and have a great week.

PTI's June 2016 Blog Hop

What beautiful artwork "The Reef" is by Yellana James!  I just fell in love with the colors and the movement.  Just stunning.

Here's is my take on our inspiration photo.  I instantly thought of the technique Jennifer McGuire calls "Watercolor Lifting".  You can see her youtube video here.

My colors didn't quite turn out like Yellana's, but I really liked how my watercolors blended together.  I won't lie, it did take a few tries to get the blending I wanted.  My embossing wasn't perfect, but I still like really like the way my card turned out.

Thank you so much for stopping by, I love it when you do.  Happy hopping!  I can't wait to see what everyone else came up with either!

Create-a-card background

I picked up this stamp last week after taking a class with Marcia at a local stamp/needle works store.  We love to take classes there to keep our mojo up and running.  We didn't get to play with this particular stamp, but Kris had some cute samples for us to see.  Marcia, another friend, Julie, and I got together on Friday afternoon and decided to use this stamp to make a couple of cards.

Peonies for Mother's Day

Wow!  Time is flying by at record speeds now!  I really meant to post this last weekend, but life got in the way.  My baby is graduating from HS later this month so I had to get the invites in the mail and I was already a week late on doing that because I still hadn't ordered wallet prints from Snapshot and of course USPS didn't cooperate either.  I am so far behind the 8-ball that none of this really surprised me. Oh well, the invites should be hitting mailboxes between now and the end of the week.

So here's my Mother's Day cards for two wonderful ladies who have always been our cheerleaders throughout our entire lives and our children's lives.  We are truly blessed to still have them in our lives.  I know Mother's Day and Father's Day are very hard holidays for many.  Please know, I've been praying for everyone who has lost one or both of their parents.

I just had to have Altenew's Peony Bouquet when I saw this card by Tasnim Ahmed.  Utterly beautiful!!!  As I was struggling with making a card, I went back to this one and decided to CASE it.

I never met Al's Grandma Rose, but her peonies were in the front yard of their home and Grandpa Rose was just so proud of those peonies.  I, too, loved them and now wish, I had asked for clippings to replant in my garden before they sold his house.  As they say, hindsight is 20/20.

Grandma Rose's peonies were pink, but I don't have a lot of pink inks that I really like, so I went with yellow, which is both of my moms' favorite color.

As you can see, I couldn't decide if I like the card on the Smoky Slate or Daffodil Delight, so I did one of each.  They didn't turned out as pretty as Tasnim's, but IRL them and our moms did, too, which is what means the most!

5 yrs old
You probably won't hear from me much for the rest of May and into June as we get ready for Tim's graduation and open house.  I'll post when I can.  Here's a few senior pics of my baby!!!

These were taken at our friends (Tim's Godparents' home).  Tim has grown up on their little hobby farm and we thought it would be a perfect setting for his pics.

The cow wanted her pic taken, too!

Our dog had to meet the cows, too!

Fluttering by...

I think I'm hooked on butterflies.  Most of my posts lately have been with butterflies.  This card is for MFT's Sketch Challenge #277.  I'm cutting it close to the deadline this week.  Sometimes there is just not enough hours in a day, let alone a week.  I apologize for the poor quality of this picture.  It's what I get for taking the picture at night and not having a nice camera set up.

This was a fun sketch to work with again, even though I had a hard time figuring out what to do with this sketch.  Once I got going, it became much easier to work with.  Thanks again for another wonderful challenge.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  Enjoy your week!!!

PTI's April 2016 Blog Hop

Good Monday morning, everyone!  It's time for PTI's April 2016 Blog Hop.  I don't know about you all, but this month's inspiration photo wasn't one of my favorites, but that's what is fun about art, including card making, we are all inspired by different things.  It was hard to come up with an idea.  It took me until Saturday to figure out what I wanted to do.  I'm happy with the completed card.  It did come out like I envisioned it.

This painting reminded me of the 70's.  My mom had brown appliances, one aunt had Avocado Green appliances and another aunt had a red/orange shag carpet in her living room or the rec room that was in the basement.  I don't remember which room.  When Al and I moved into our house in 1987, about 6 months after we were married, we bought a well-used refrigerator and stove in Harvest Gold and in that deal for $150.00, we also got a white washer/dryer set, too.  The stove didn't last too long, neither did the washer & dryer, but that fridge wouldn't die!!  I had to beg for a new one and finally got a stainless steel french door fridge back in 2007.  The fridge did die as soon as we moved it into the garage, though.  I'm not too anxious to bring these colors back anytime soon.

I lightly sponged the white card stock with Crumb Cake ink.  I did think the flower I used from the Friendly Flower set screamed 70's to me.  When I showed my finished card to Al, he asked me if I was trying to bring back the 70's.  He made my day.  He got what I was going for and he hadn't even seen the inspiration picture at that time.

Thank you so much for stopping by, I love it when you do.  Happy blog hopping!  I can't wait to see what everyone else came up with.  Have a great week!

Faux Brush Lettering

Hi everyone.  It's been a busy weekend, but I did get to sneak in a few hours to make a few cards.  I have another in the works, but it will have to wait until tomorrow.

This card is for Make It Monday #246 - Faux Brush Lettering.  Amy Sheffer showed us how to make our lettering look more like we painted it ourselves.  Mine didn't turn out as nice as Amy's.  I couldn't quite the variation in the color as I wanted.  I'll have to practice this technique a bit more.

I used Gina K's heavy weight Pure Luxury White CS
PTI's Wet Paint, Bloomin' Cute and Color Pop Butterflies Stamp Sets
PTI's inks in Summer Sunrise, Harvest Gold, Amethyst Allure, Spring Rain and Blueberry Skies
SU's Lavender Lace ink
PTI's Color Pop Butterflies stencil
PTI's Rainstones

When I was sponging the lighter colors of the butterflies through the stencil, I think there was still a bit of purple left on the stencil as the Spring Rain color came out with a purple tint (oops).  It was fun to use the butterflies stencil from the new mini market kit from this month's release.   I am also entering this card in SimonSays Monday Challenge - Butterfly Beauty and SimonSays Wednesday Challenge - Make It Girlie, too.

Thank you so much for stopping by, I love it when you do.

So cute...

Hi everyone, I'm back again with one card that works for two challenges this week.  MFT Sketch Challenge #276 and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Let's do the Polka.

What a great sketch this week and I'm having fun seeing everyone's interpretation of this sketch.  And I just love SSS challenge this week, using polka dots.  I really struggle using patterned paper, so I thought I should try this one just to challenge myself on how to use polka dot paper that is so cute no matter what color it is.

Butterflies!

Hi everyone, we have had a beautiful sunny weekend and it's actually warm outside!  We are all just giddy about it.

This weekend, I made a card for "Create Along With Us".  I just loved this month's PTI release!  I'm a sucker for butterflies, so yes, I ordered the mini make it market kit, along with some other wonderful stamp sets.

Kay Miller is my new crush!  I just love how she makes the colors pop off the page and how bright and cherry all her cards are.  I can only imagine what they look like in real life.  Don't you just love her card she made with Color Pop Mini Kit?

Here is my attempt at Kay's card.  Kay makes her cards look like they would be easy to duplicate, not the case at all!

Spectrum Noir Glitter Pen

The second close up picture is to show off Spectrum Noir's Glitter pen.  It was the special "extra" from Catherine Pooler's last SOA kit.  I have to say I like it better than Wink of Stella.  I think it has more glitter and seems to flow better.

Thank you for stopping by, I always love it when you do.  I'm hoping to have another card or two up yet this week.  Enjoy your week.  I do have a busy one coming up at work.

Happy Birthday!

It's 3 posts in a row!  I think it might be a record for me.  Using the same card idea from yesterday, I wanted to post for Simon Says Wednesday Challenge almost at the last minute.  They are celebrating their 7th birthday!

MFT Sketch #275

I've never done a Sketch challenge before.  I've always been intimidated by them for some reason.  I've been following MFT blog for awhile now and thought I would give their sketch challenge a try.  So here's my first sketch challenge card for MFT Sketch #275.  I couldn't find anywhere if we are to use MFT products, exclusively.  If anyone can answer that question for me, I'd appreciate it.  And if I was suppose to, I'm sorry, not everything on this card is from MFT, just most of it :)
