Stockings, huge part of Christmas, right? I did find some stocking stamps, but they were so tiny, I couldn't think of what to do with them for this week's Merry Monday Challenge #94. Ding...ding...ding...light bulb goes off Monday at a class Marcia and I took at a local scrapbook store making valentine treat holders...I could use my new Silhoutte Cameo that my hubby got me for Christmas (gave him a huge hint...sent him the link...box that is covered with "Scrapbook.com" arrives a week later. I thought it was hilarious, but awful at the same time, since I knew what it was, and couldn't have it for three more weeks!!!). Good thing I was busy trying to get everything done before kids came home for Christmas.
I downloaded the stockings, the "Stockings Hung With Care" saying and the Santa boots from the Silhoutte store. I used cardstock scraps I had in my scrap box for all the cutting. I also used Tim Holtz's "Bricked" embossing folder and colored over the brick with Stampin' Up's Bravo Burgundy" ink. I then used Stampin' Up's "Woodgrain" embossing folder on SU's "Soft Suede" cardstock for the mantle. I used the Martha Stewart "branch" punch for the greens on top of the mantle and I hung the stockings with silver brads.
I had this card floating around in my head since Monday afternoon and finally was able to put it to paper Thursday afternoon. Was very impressed that my idea actually worked on paper. That doesn't happen every time.
Thank you, Merry Mondays, for really making me think outside the box. I don't usually make cards without stamping something, so this is new for me! Thanks for stopping by.
You are making good use of that Silhouette! Love these stockings and the cozy scene you've created! Thanks for sharing this with us at Merry Monday!
ReplyDeleteOh, lucky you to have a Silhouette, Sue, and a hint-taking hubby! Those machines make the most amazing cards from what I've seen in Blogland! I've still cut too many NBUS stamps to use before I can justify getting one, but I'm delighted to see that it helped you bring your imagination to actualization in this fabulous Christmas card! I especially love the whimsy of it!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteGreat job rocking your Silhouette, Sue!!! Love these stockings and the words. Thank you for sharing this with us at Merry Monday!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this card Sue! The brick background, the woodgrain mantle & greenery, the fabulous stockings and sentiment, and of course Santa's boots....it all came together to make a delightfully whimsical card! You might have a hard time giving this one away!! Great job!! :0)
ReplyDeleteVery cute card, love this little scene you have created. Thank you for joining us for Merry Monday.
ReplyDeleteI can often make cards without stamping on them until asked to do so then every idea ever flees my mind. I love your card and all the detail like the brick wall with light sponging, wood grain mantle, the pine branches and Santa's boots! Such a great card. I think most folks made a stocking as opposed to stamp one. It makes me think there may be a stocking stamp shortage in the world.
ReplyDeleteFabulous card, Sue! I love the scene you've created with your Silhouette files - your colors and layout are just perfect! Thanks so much for joining us at Merry Monday.
ReplyDeleteThis really is a traditional fireside scene Sue. The Silhouette cuts are so perfect for it. Love the colours you have used too. Thank you so much for joining us at Merry Monday.
